Friends and Family Day at Linton Army Camp
Mayor Tracey Collis and Dannevirke & Districts RSA Vice President Paddy Driver recently attended the 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment (1RNZIR) ‘Friends and Family Day‘ at Linton Army Camp.
"The day showcased the capability of the Battalion and what they do. It was a privilege to attend and an honour to be included," said Mayor Collis.
Mr Driver said the significance of the event was to involve the families of those serving in the army and show their families just what they do both here, and when they are serving overseas.
With static and moving displays, Mr Driver says the event also helps raise funds for the Battalion fund, which is used for farewells, or welfare.
On 7 October 2016, Tararua District proudly became the first region to have a charter with the NZ Army.
"1RNZIR serve us well - every ANZAC Day throughout the district they provide personnel to each service. They are looking forward to sharing the interactive displays with us when they return for the next parade early in 2018." said Mayor Collis.
"Being invited to this event was for me a signal, we are regarded as a part of the 1st Battalion family."
