Applying for building consents over the holiday season

A friendly reminder for those submitting building consent applications between November and January.

In accordance with Section 48 of the Building Act, Council has 20 working days to grant or refuse a building consent application. However, the period from 20 December to 10 January every year is not classified as working days under the Building Act 2004.

Tararua District Council offices will be closed from midday, Friday, 22 December until Monday, 8 January 2018 (normal operating hours). Therefore any building consent applications submitted after 20 December 2017 will be affected.

During this time, inspections are generally limited to emergency situations or those pre-arranged with the Building Team.

Remember – if you are planning any construction, removal or alteration work you will need to obtain a building consent before the work begins.
