Councillors out and about in Tararua
Tararua Mayor Tracey Collis and a full contingent of councillors were out and about last week visiting a number of sites throughout the district.
Accompanied by Tararua District Council Chief Executive Blair King, Group Manager Plant and Property Dave Watson, Tararua Alliance Planning Manager Rob Sharp, Tararua Alliance Performance Manager Ray Cannon, Manager Regulatory Services Craig Lunn and Community Assets and Property Manager Colin Veale, Mayor Collis says the tour was to see first-hand work in progress and look at issues on site.
The tour included a visit to the Woodville Impounded Water Supply, the Woodville and Dannevirke
pounds, the Carnegie Community Centre, Dannevirke Domain grandstand, Norsewood Water Treatment Plant, Ormondville Wastewater Ponds and Route 52.
Mayor Collis said everyone was impressed with the work that has been done and the progress that’s been made at many of the sites they visited.
"We were all very impressed with the incredible progress that has been made on the Woodville impounded water supply and the earthquake strengthening of the Pahiatua Service Centre and its wonderful restoration.
"We could see the challenges the Woodville dog pound faces in comparison to the new pound in Dannevirke, and our visit to Route 52 gave us a clearer picture of the damage forestry has on our roads."
Mayor Collis said what was particularly interesting, was the opportunity to watch drone footage of the forestry block at Birch Road.
"This gave everyone a good overview and visual understanding of the forestry block that we wouldn’t normally have."
