Notice of Council Resolution on Electoral System and of Right to Demand a Poll
The Tararua District Council, at a meeting held on 30th August 2017 has resolved that the electoral system to be used for the 2019 triennial general election of the Council and its Community Boards be the First Past the Post (FPP) System.
Electors of the Tararua District Council and its Community Boards have a right to demand a poll to countermand the resolution to use the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system. Should a valid demand for a poll be received, a poll will be held on whether the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system or the Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral system will be used for the next two triennial general elections (2019 and 2022) of the Council and its Community Boards.
A valid demand must be:
made in writing;
signed by at least 5 per cent of eligible voters of the Tararua District Council and its Community Boards. This will require 605 valid elector signatures; and
delivered to the office of the Tararua District Council, 26 Gordon Street, Dannevirke by 28 February 2018 if the poll is to be held in sufficient time to take effect for the 2019 election.
Every elector who signs a demand must also set out in it his or her name and the address for which he or she is qualified as an elector of the Council and its Community Boards.
