Candidate Profiles

JOHNS, Peter

-----------------------------------------------------

My principal residence is within the South Tararua Ward.

I have lived in the Southern ward for 33 years as both farmer and town dweller and have been and remain heavily involved in several community committees and clubs. Currently I chair the Woodville Recreation Trust, President Pahiatua Golf Club, Executive Woodville Districts’ Vision and a member for 33 years of Woodville Lions club.

I have served on Council before and have knowledge and insight as to what is achievable. Government demands on issues such as water quality, waste water discharge, recycling and earthquake strengthening, have placed huge additional costs on ratepayers. While these matters have largely been accomplished, it is now time for more rigour in the way Council spends our money.

The district has an opportunity to attract newcomers escaping the Auckland housing crisis. We need to attract those with ideas, enthusiasm and capital. Creation of new and diverse businesses and jobs must be a prime aim.
