About the position

About the Tararua Alliance

The Tararua Alliance is a partnership between Tararua District Council and Downer, and is a unique, single delivery team providing full management of the transportation activity and 3Waters reticulation infrastructure. As a Tararua District Council employee working within the Tararua Alliance, the Engineering Team Leader will provide leadership to the Engineering & Design Team ensuring deliverables are met while making best use of available financial, human and physical resources to provide a customer focused, responsive service delivery team.

The Engineering Team Leader role is crucial in ensuring fit for purpose and cost effective solutions are developed for the district’s core infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to be involved with civil projects from conception to completion, working collaboratively with physical works staff, with access to broader technical expertise and innovative tools such as drones.

About you

We want to hear from people who:

  • Have a collaborative nature and good problem solving skills.
  • Are reliable, accountable and have good time management.
  • Are results driven and have the ability to think on their feet.   
  • Adaptable and open to change.
  • Have a Civil Engineering qualification (I.e. BE, BEngTech, NZDE).
  • Have experience in civil projects and project management.
  • Have a current and full class 1 driver’s License.

Preferable but not essential

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
  • Project Management Qualification (PRINCE2, etc.)
  • Experience in site investigation, surveying and design
