Welcome to Our Website!

Tararua District is a predominantly rural area especially suitable for sheep, cattle, and dairy farming. The large size of the district (424,000 hectares) and the fact that there are several small urban areas included within it provide significant challenges in terms of service delivery.

Over a third of the workers in the district are employed in the agricultural industry. Other industries include food processing, textiles and retailing; all of these however, are insignificant compared with agriculture. Commercial forestry is a very new industry and the benefits will not be maximised for another 25 years.

The following persons have been nominated as candidates for the election to fill the extraordinary vacancy on the Dannevirke Community Board:

Judith Robyn BRENAN

Voting documents will be forwarded to electors of the Dannevirke Community Board between 9th September and 12th September 2008. Voting documents must be returned by post not later than 12 noon on Wednesday 1st October 2008 to the Electoral Officer, Tararua District Council. The Council has resolved that voting documents are to be processed during the voting period.

Special voting in terms of the Local Electoral Act 2001 and the Local Electoral Regulations 2001 may be exercised at the Dannevirke Council Service Centre during ordinary office hours from 9th September 2008 until the close of the voting at 12 noon on 1st October 2008.

A person may apply to enrol as either a residential or a ratepayer elector up to 30th September 2008 - the day before the close of voting.
