Libraries

Tararua District Library provides public library services at four locations throughout the Tararua District. There are community libraries at Dannevirke, Pahiatua, Woodville and Eketahuna. Eketahuna also operates as a Council Service Centre as well as a library.

Anyone can use our libraries, but for full borrowing privileges, you need to be a member with a current library card. Members aged 18 and over need to pay an annual card fee.

Joining the library

Anyone who lives or pays rates in Tararua District is eligible to join the library. You can join at any of our libraries. You will need to bring ID and proof of address with you when you join. If you are 17 or under we need a guarantor – an adult (usually a parent) who agrees to be responsible for the books you borrow.

Social Media Presence

Tararua Library has a blog and a facebook page.

Our Blog can be found here. http://tararualibrary.wordpress.com

Non-Resident Subscription

If you live outside the Tararua District, you can join the library for a yearly fee of $50.00.

Borrowing

To borrow from the library, you need a current library card.  All items are free to borrow, except for videos, which have a rental charge of $2.00 for one week, and DVDs, which have a charge of $3.00. You can borrow from any of the four Tararua libraries, and we prefer that wherever possible, you return items to the library you borrowed them from, as this saves us time and money.

Loan Period

The usual loan period is three weeks except for videos and DVDs, which have a one week loan period. You will need to present your library card to borrow any item.

Overdues

If you are late returning your books, there is a fine which grows until they are returned. Borrowing will be suspended if fines exceed $5.00. You can avoid fines if you return your books as soon as you finish reading them.

Renewals

Loan items can usually be renewed, with a limit of two renewals per item.  This can be done in person, or over the telephone, at any of our community libraries. But if the item has been requested by someone else, it will not be renewed.  Renewals for videos and DVDs are counted as another loan period, and incur a further rental charge.

Friends of the Library

Help us to build a better library service by becoming a Library Friend. There is a Friends of the Library group operating in Dannevirke. Enquire at your library for further information.
