Whanau Support

Strengthening Families has been helping families/whanau get access to the services they need since 1997.

Strengthening Families not only helps families achieve better education, housing support, health and social outcomes, it also benefits agencies in their core service delivery.

The Strengthening Families process brings together the family and all other agencies that have a part to play in helping the family/whanau achieve its desired outcomes.  Directed by the family but powered by the Strengthening Families team. Families develop an action plan that reflects their values, the children and the whānau/family’s wellbeing priorities, their desired action plan and timeframe.  By having everyone in the room at the same time, the family only has to tell its story once.

Referral process

Anyone can refer a family to Strengthening Families if; the family give their consent, have children aged between 0 – 17 years old and are involved with more than one agency.

To find out more, search www.strengtheningfamilies.govt.nz or contact Tararua REAP and speak to the Strengthening Families Coordinator, phone (06) 374 6565 ext. 2.
