Dog Owners Urged to Avoid Fines
If your dog is not currently wearing a new yellow tag then it is unregistered.
Tararua District Council is urging dog owners who have still not re-registered their dog to do so immediately.
Each year Council writes to every dog owner on the database and advertises the registration period. All dogs should have been registered by 1 August, however, Council always gives dog owners until the end of August to re-register their dogs before any infringement fines are imposed. Council’s Animal Control Officers will now start following up unregistered dogs including site visits to their residence if required.
Anyone caught with an unregistered dog will receive an infringement fine of $300 per dog. If you have an unregistered dog in your possession, even if someone else owns the dog, you will be fined.Council is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Animal Control.
