Project Update #2: Behind the scenes of the Pahiatua Town Centre Upgrade…
While there may not be diggers rumbling through the centre of town, there is certainly plenty happening behind the scenes when it comes to the Pahiatua Town Centre Upgrade.
With public consultation now finished, underground work is set to begin in September 2019 and will be done in four stages (blocks) with Stage One beginning at the northern end of town near the intersection of Cambridge and Paterson Streets. The aboveground works are set to begin during the winter of 2020.
Recently there have been some changes to the project team, with Stuart Malins of Tararua Alliance, taking over the role of Project Manager and Alex Slabbert also with Tararua Alliance now the Project Site Engineer.
Jonathon Schwass, has also joined Tararua Alliance and is now the Team Leader of the Project Management team.
Stuart who recently joined Tararua Alliance has been in the construction industry for over 35 years, with the last 15 in project management. Having lived in Tararua for over 20 years, Stuart says it is exciting to be involved in a project that is not only on his ‘back door step’ but is challenging in its complexity.
Alex, who emigrated from South Africa with his fiancé, lives in Palmerston North and is from a civil engineering background, with 7 years in the construction sector.
Stuart says the objective is to complete the construction of the project to the high expectation the public and associated group’s demand, in quality, time and budget, as well as ensuring that good public relations are maintained throughout the process.
The next project update is scheduled for the end of May.
