Tararua Risk manager wins prestigious leadership award

Tararua District Council Risk Manager, Sandy Lowe, has been awarded the prestigious Brookfields Emerging Leader of the Year Award by the Society of Local Government Managers (SOLGM).

The Award, sponsored by Brookfields Lawyers and presented at SOLGM’s Gala Dinner in Auckland, provides a fully paid trip to attend the ICMA Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, the largest annual event in the world for local government managers and staff.

The judges were impressed by the way Sandy steps towards challenge, her ability to execute difficult tasks, and her approach and leadership that has a direct impact on council and the community.

SOLGM’s Chief Executive, Karen Thomas, described Sandy’s desire to learn, communicate and share her experience with others as admirable.

“She displays all the characteristic’s desirable in a local government leader and her story is an inspiration for anyone entering local government.

“Sandy is an up and coming leader to watch, and was a standout candidate for this year’s Emerging leader award,” said Ms Thomas.

Sandy says she is very excited to have the opportunity to attend the ICMA annual conference, and is very grateful for all the support she has received from the community and council. She now looks forward to future opportunities that may arise as a result of her success at the awards.
