Environmental Health Officer

We are currently seeking an Environmental Health Officer to join Tararua District Council’s Regulatory Services team.

Applicants must be a qualified Environmental Health Officer and will need to demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills and make a commitment to Council’s values.

Reporting to the Regulatory Services Manager, this role is responsible:

▪ To provide environmental health services for the Tararua District.
▪ To protect and enhance environmental health standards in the district, by education and the application of relevant statutes, regulations, Council bylaws and policies.
▪ To ensure public safety outcomes are achieved, including ensuring safe food, appropriate alcohol management practices and minimisation of risk from trade waste, hazardous substances.
▪ To protect the environment and the health of the community including residents and visitors to Tararua District.
▪ To provide cover for the Licencing and Compliance Officer as required.

The following skills and work experience are essential:
* National Diploma in Environmental Health Science (NZ) or an equivalent relevant tertiary qualification in accordance with the Environmental Health Officers Qualifications Regulations 1993
* The ability to effectively interpret statutes and regulations, including the Health Act 1956, the Food Act 2014, Food Regulations 2015, the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, the Litter Act 1979 and Council plans, bylaws and policies
* Strong organisational, administrative, and time management skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to customer service
* Driver’s licence and computer literacy
