Tararua District Council is seeking a Manager – Democracy Services (full time) to join the Corporate team based in Dannevirke.
This role oversees the governance function so it operates in a legislatively compliant manner and assists the democratic decision-making process by ensuring decisions are well informed, and responsibilities and outcomes are clearly understood. Critical to this role is to influence and manage relationships between the governance and operation functions of council. You will also need to provide accurate and timely advice, secretarial and governance support services to the Council, its committees, and Community Boards.
A good understanding of local government systems and processes, providing support to manage the special consultative procedure submissions process and, an understanding and demonstrated ability to recognise the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to local government strategies are crucial for this role. Knowledge of the Official Information Act, Local Government Act and other relevant legislation along with the ability to act with integrity and discretion to handle this in a professional and confident manner is desired.
Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential along with experience in using computer programmes and systems. A qualification or relevant local authority experience necessary along with knowledge of the Tararua District and an awareness of community issues.
