Roading

The transportation activity is managed by the Tararua Alliance, a collaborative working agreement (or partnership) between Tararua District Council and Downer NZ Ltd.

The Tararua Alliance is responsible for all the District's public local roads. This includes the maintenance of sealed and unsealed roads, bridges, street lights, footpaths, road marking, traffic signals, signs, walkways and cycleways, roadside vegetation control. The Tararua Alliance also manage Council’s water, wastewater, and stormwater reticulation infrastructure.

State highways within the Tararua District are managed by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (NZTA). NZTA also manage the Saddle Road and Pahiatua Track routes following the indefinite closure of State Highway 3 through the Manawatu Gorge.

Help us to keep your roads and footpaths safe. We maintain them for the benefit of all road users including pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
