About the role

This role is to ensure to effective and efficient management of water and wastewater treatment plants. This includes managing the operation and maintenance of seven drinking water and seven wastewater treatment plants across the Tararua District, with responsibilities focused on water abstraction, water and wastewater treatment, water storage and supply.

This is a permanent role with Tararua District Council.

Responsibility for the delivery of water services will transfer to Waitī Waters from 1 July 2027, the new water company for the South Wairarapa, Carterton, Masterton and Tararua Districts. The successful applicant will be permanently appointed to this role with Tararua District Council and, through the Direct Offer pathway under the Waitī Waters Staff Transition Guidelines will receive an offer to transfer into a substantially similar role with Waitī Waters from 1 July 2027.

The Direct Offer pathway provides for the role holder to be offered a substantially similar role in the same general locality, on the same or better terms and conditions, with continuous service recognised from Council to Waitī Waters.

Who we are looking for

  • Tertiary qualification relevant to water and/or wastewater treatment
  • At least five years’ experience in water and wastewater service delivery, ideally in New Zealand
  • Strong leadership abilities with at least two years’ experience in leadership roles
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage a high workload
  • High level of communication and relationship management skills
  • Financial and budget management skills
  • A valid NZ Driver’s License
