Dannevirke Water Supply Update

Suppliers have completed repairs to identified leaks at the Dannevirke impounded water supply. As shown in the photo below, the section of liner replaced had several tears contributing to the leak. Although these repairs have been completed and the leak has slowed, Council is continuing to investigate further water loss

Staff and suppliers are working diligently to solve this issue and consider. This a critical priority for Council as we head into summer. We are still able to draw water from the Tamaki River and, with the Dannevirke water treatment plant upgrade almost complete, we will have the capability to treat more turbid water, further reducing the risk of future precautionary boil water notices having to be issued.
“We understand the pressure of the consistent restrictions is concerning coming into summer. This is why we are also investigating ways to reduce pressure on our water supply without increasing restrictions for urban users. We are unsure what this looks like as yet and will provide you with an update when we can” says Mayor Tracey Collis.

We want to thank Dannevirke residents for their ongoing conservation efforts and understanding. Council will provide another update when it is available.
