New District and town Signage

Tararua District Council completed the installation of 34 new signs across 13 towns throughout the district.

The signage project formed part of the Council's "Land of Ranges" branding initiative, which was developed to strengthen district identity, foster local pride, support visitor attraction and promote Tararua as a destination.

Large landscape signs were installed on key entry routes into the district, including the Te Ahu a Turanga Manawatū–Tararua Highway corridor, the Pahiatua Track and Route 52. New district entry and exit signs were installed at Norsewood and Eketāhuna, while town signs were erected throughout Dannevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua, Eketāhuna, Norsewood, Ormondville, Herbertville, Ākitio, Pongaroa and Weber.

The project created a more consistent and recognisable visual identity across the district, replacing older visitor signage and providing a cohesive experience for residents and visitors alike.

Community consultation played an important role in the design process, with local communities helping select imagery and colours that reflected the unique character of their towns. The resulting signs celebrate local identity while contributing to a stronger district-wide brand.

The completed signage network now serves as a welcoming feature for visitors, helps strengthen community pride, and supports the ongoing promotion of the Tararua District.

Mayor Tracey explains“We consulted with our communities to create vibrant, modern signs that show our beautiful landscape, but also keep the identity of each town with images that are iconic to them. We want people to know when they enter and leave our places and district with great memories. We look forward to putting the Tararua District firmly on the map. We would like visitors to tell their friends and family where they have been. The new signs will help them to become more aware of where they have been, and more people will visit us.”
