On-Farm Clean-Up

Immediate On-Farm Clean-Up (Feb–June 2023):

Farmers urgently needed support after Cyclone Gabrielle to manage stock welfare and clear debris. Tararua Rural Support Trust coordinated clean-up crews and linked farmers with materials, equipment, and volunteers. This practical help provided momentum and reassurance during a difficult time.

  • 66 properties were supported
  • 1,293 volunteer hours worked
  • 49 working bees
  • 110 floodgates, 2,369 posts, and 5,300m of netting distributed

Enhanced Taskforce Green (June–Nov 2023):

Delivered by Tararua Rural Support Trust with MSD funding, this programme provided paid labour to help farmers restore fencing, clear debris, and repair on-farm infrastructure. Despite initial setup challenges, it had major impact.

  • This was a 5-month project, assisting 42 landowners across the district
  • 6 job seekers gained employment and training
  • There was a strong collaboration between government and local networks boosted rural recovery
