River and Rainfall Monitoring
As part of the wider strategy to enhance resilience and emergency response capabilities across the district, Horizons Regional Council has successfully completed the installation of remote telemetry units at key rural sites. These installations deliver real-time environmental data, significantly improving situational awareness and response during adverse weather events.
Monitoring systems were installed at Owahanga, Pongaroa, Weber, Wimbledon and Cadmus Bridge. All locations are now fully operational and actively transmitting live data.
This work represents a significant investment in preparedness, particularly for isolated communities that are often first and most heavily impacted by weather events. The data collected supports more responsive and informed decision-making during emergencies, helping reduce risk to infrastructure and enhance public safety.
