Progress continues on new Pahiatua swimming pool
2 February 2026
Progress is continuing on the new Pahiatua swimming pool, with Tararua District Council and Bush Aquatic Trust now working closely with a preferred contractor to advance the project.
Collaborating with Bush Aquatic Trust, the provision of a new indoor aquatic facility for Pahiatua has been discussed and investigated over the past decade. During the Long-Term-Plan 2024-2034 consultation, a significant majority of submissions favoured Council investing in the development of a new indoor aquatic facility for Pahiatua.
The new indoor aquatic facility comes with a $6.1 million funding target. Council agreed to funding $2.5 million of this project accounted for in the Long-Term Plan 2024-2034, in addition to $600,000 already invested to get the project through the design and tender phases. Construction of the new facility is expected to begin later this year, subject to design and funding.
The current phase involves finalising the pool design in collaboration with the project designer, alongside confirming construction pricing. This step marks an important milestone for the project.
Both the Bush Aquatic Trust and Tararua District Council are pleased with the progress to date and are looking forward to delivering a safe, modern swimming facility that will serve the community for years to come.
The Council will continue to keep the community informed as further milestones are reached.
