Pahiatua Hillcrest development on schedule

Pahiatua Hillcrest Development Running on Schedule.

Infrastructure development is progressing well in Pahiatua of new wastewater, stormwater, and freshwater pipe systems.

This will support the wider area and new housing at the former Pahiatua Hillcrest School site. The infrastructure is on schedule for completion in June 2024.

The installation of the new wastewater rising main pipe and water connections have been successfully completed, and this milestone marks a significant achievement in the project and has been a major piece of work for contractors.

There is ongoing work including stormwater upgrades and the replacement of manholes for stormwater and gravity mains with the commissioning and transition of gravity mains to the new pump station planned for May.

In the coming weeks, the project will also see works begin on upgrading affected driveway vehicle crossings from Huxley to Lawson Street and the completion of the wastewater pump station. These works will be largely concentrated from Huxley Street upwards, extending to Kauri Place on the south side.

This infrastructure development is supported by Crown funding totalling $880,000 and Tararua District Council and iwi contributions of $440,000 and $100,000 respectively.  The Crown funding was contracted to the Council from the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund (IAF) which is administered by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities.  Tararua District Council partnered with Rangitāne Tamaki nui-ā-Rua and its business wing, Tū Mai Rā Investments.  Together, the council and iwi successfully applied for the IAF funding to help meet the need for more housing.  Papakāinga, rental and affordable housing are among the proposed plans for the development, with the infrastructure works also benefiting existing housing in the area.

The area of the improved stormwater and wastewater has been subject to flooding and stressed systems in the past.

Tararua District Council wishes to thank residents for their patience while this work has been undertaken.
