Building consent processing delays expected over coming months

16 February 2026

People planning building or development projects may notice longer time-frames for consent applications over the coming months.

Council’s building consent processing provider has advised they currently have reduced availability, which means some applications will take longer than usual. This situation is expected to continue for approximately three months.

Chris Parker, Building Operations Team Leader, says the situation is being actively managed.

“We know timing matters for people planning building projects. While capacity is lower than usual right now, applications are still being worked through, and we are moving quickly to bring extra support on board so that we can continue to meet statutory time-frames.”

“We will let applicants and their agents know if there is any risk that their application may not meet those time-frames. We encourage anyone planning work in the next few months to allow extra time and stay in touch with us if you have any questions.”

When processing time-frames return to normal, customers will be notified through the Council website and Facebook page, as well as the Bush Telegraph and a new Building and Planning Newsletter that Council is launching later this month. Council thanks those affected for their understanding and patience during this time.
