Final Results Now Available

Voting for the 2025 Local Body Elections closed at 12 noon on Saturday 11 October. Final results for the Tararua District Council elections are now available on Council’s website.

In the Māori Ward Poll, voters opted to REMOVE the Māori Ward for the Tararua District. A total of 7,119 votes were cast. There were 3,576 votes to REMOVE, 3,049 votes to KEEP and 493 votes that were BLANK.
It’s important to understand: this was a binding poll. That means the result legally must be carried out and the outcome of the poll will be implemented in the 2028 and 2031 local elections. The Māori Ward Seat for the 2025 Local Elections will remain in place for the next 3 years.
The final overall voter return was 55.05%, being 7,119 votes, including special votes.

These results are final. Newly elected members will take office tomorrow, Friday 17 October 2025 and will be officially sworn-in on 30 October 2025. The Final Declaration of Results will be published on Council’s website and Facebook page, and in the next available edition of the Bush Telegraph newspaper.
