Tararua Alliance has received updated results from the concrete core sampling taken recently from Alfredton bridge. On the basis of these preliminary results, a bridge engineer has given approval to reopen the bridge to light vehicles only at this stage.

The bridge engineer is still to confirm the heavy vehicle limitations and signage detailing the weight limit capacity of the bridge will be confirmed and sign-posted in the coming week or so.

In the meantime, concrete barriers have been placed at the entrances on both sides of the bridge to create a chicane for light vehicles only, to ensure heavy vehicles do not cross the bridge as this could damage the bridge further.

A temporary reduced speed limit of 30km remains in place. Tararua Alliance is seeking further specialist advice on options for a longer-term solution and will update the community when that analysis has been completed.
