Correction: Updated Road Closure Information – Targa Rally 2025

18 October 2025

Previous notifications from Tararua District Council regarding temporary road closures for the 2025 Targa Rally omitted some affected areas (Stage: Route 52 – Porangahao). We apologise for this error.

The correct road closures are detailed in the resident letters below, as provided by the event organisers. These letters include maps, closure times, and contact information for emergencies or property access. Residents within the affected areas should have already received these letters directly. If you need to enter or leave your property during the closure period, please refer to the phone number listed in the letter relevant to your area.

Thank you for your understanding and patience while we correct this information.

In 2025, Targa New Zealand celebrates 30 years of The Ultimate Road Race. The event spans five days, covering 900km of closed-road special stages and 1,000km of scenic touring, taking drivers through Pukekohe, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, and Hawkes Bay.

Each day begins early with pre-race inspections, warm-ups, and competitive stages averaging 25km each. Drivers and co-drivers experience high-speed racing with precision timing, punctuated only by service stops and lunch. The day ends with parc fermé, car maintenance, and preparation for the next stage.

Targa New Zealand is more than a race – it’s an unforgettable experience for drivers, co-drivers, crews, and communities along the route.
