Pongaroa Water Supply

30 October 2026

Update as at 4:00pm, Friday 30 October 2026;

The issue affecting the Pongaroa water supply has not yet been resolved, despite further work today to identify and fix the problem.

We will continue to bring in water by tanker as needed to make sure the Pongaroa community has access to compliant drinking water while we work to resolve the issue.

This morning two tanker loads of water were delivered to refill the treated water tanks. The raw water line was visually inspected by member of the Pongaroa Rural Water Scheme for about 5km from the treatment plant to the first set of tanks, with no leaks found. Another attempt was made to flush the main line, but the water remains discolored.

Our Water Team will continue working on the problem over the weekend and monitoring treated water levels.

Thank you to the Pongaroa community for your patience and understanding while we work through this issue.

We're asking Pongaroa residents to conserve water while we investigate an issue at the local water treatment plant.

Following a fire hydrant flush on Wednesday, high turbidity levels (cloudiness in the water) have prevented the treatment plant from producing water.

We’re still working to get the Pongaroa water supply back online. Our team is inspecting the raw water line to check for a possible break that may be causing the turbid water.

In the meantime, we’ve arranged bulk water deliveries to refill the tanks. These are expected to arrive between 9am and 9.30am this morning ( Friday 30 October).

We’ll keep working to identify the problem and restore the supply, and will provide another update when we know more.
