Feedback on Council-owned land now available to explore
19 October 2026
Tararua residents can now explore what the community said about the proposed sale of two Council-owned properties in Dannevirke, with the full results of July's public engagement, including every comment received, now available through Council's online dashboard.
The engagement, held from 1 to 31 July, asked for community views on the proposed sale of land at 39 Ransom Street and 39 Gregg Street in Dannevirke. A total of 101 people shared their views, providing 139 written comments.
Elected members will discuss the community’s feedback at the Council meeting on Wednesday 28 October 2026, and consider the next steps based on the community’s feedback.
This forms part of Council's wider review of its properties, looking at whether land and buildings are being used in the best possible way and where savings could be made on ongoing costs such as maintenance and insurance.
Mayor Scott Gilmore says making the feedback publicly available is an important part of keeping the community involved in Council decisions.
"These are public assets, and it's important that our community has a say in what happens to them.”
"We need to balance the costs of owning and maintaining these properties with the value they provide to our communities. Hearing from the people who know these places and use them helps us make better-informed decisions.”
Council thanks everyone who took the time to share their views and encourages residents to explore the results.
The 28 October Council meeting will be livestreamed on Council's YouTube channel, @LandOfRanges.
