Playground upgrades in Tararua

13 July 2026

Playground upgrades are coming!

We're investing in our playgrounds across the Tararua District to ensure they remain safe, fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Over the coming weeks, you'll notice work taking place as we remove older playground equipment that is no longer compliant with current safety standards and replace it with new play equipment. Some sites will also receive new safety surfacing, timber edging and other improvements.

Here's what's happening around the district (please note, dates are approximate and may be subject to change):

Eketāhuna – 20-24 July
* Old swings and rockers will be removed.
* New swings, rocker, seesaw and spinner will be installed.

Pahiatua – 27-29 July
* Timber edging will be installed around the horizontal wooden rocker and topped up with safety bark.

Pongaroa – 30-31 July
* The old playground structure on Coast Road is currently being removed by the community.
* New swings, seesaw, rocker and balance beams will be installed.
* Timber edging and additional safety bark are also being considered, subject to budget.

Ormondville – 3-13 August
* Old swings, seesaw and climbing structure will be removed (the carousel will remain).
* New swings, seesaw and rocker will be installed.
* Timber edging and safety bark will be added once the new equipment is in place.

Norsewood 14-17 August
* Timber edging will be installed around the Roktapus and filled with safety bark.

Dannevirke – Coronation Park 18-24 August
* Timber edging will be installed and filled with safety bark.
* Remedial work will also be carried out on the existing play structure.

Dannevirke – Upper Domain – 25 August-7 September
* The existing junior play structure will be replaced with a similar new structure.
* Infant swings will be replaced with new swings.

During these upgrades, some playground areas may be temporarily closed while work is underway. We appreciate your patience as we make these improvements and look forward to seeing our communities enjoy the upgraded playgrounds!
