Update: Monday, 19 February 2024 - 1pm.

Woodville Boil Water Notice update

  • It is critical that you continue to boil all drinking water until the boil water notice has been lifted.
  • After 3 consecutive days of clear testing Council will be in a position to lift the boil water notice. Council is working closely on this with the laboratory and Taumata Arowai, NZs water services regulator.
  • Woodville’s initial water sampling results from Friday and Saturday have come back clear.
  • The final sampling results from Sunday, have not yet been received by Council, as the water samples analysis requires 48 hours. This sample result will be due to us on Tuesday, 20th February. Once this has been received, Council will be able to confirm if the boil water notice can be lifted.
  • Besides routine sampling of the water, additional testing, monitoring, and treatment is being undertaken.
  • A building contractor will do a doublecheck of the reservoir tomorrow to ensure that all possible entry points have been blocked.
  • In the first days, we gave out water bottles to get people time to organise to boil and store their own water. Bottled water is no longer available. For boiling water, electric jugs with a cut-off switch can be used as long as they are full – allow the water to come to the boil and wait for it to switch off (do not hold the switch down to increase the boiling time). Water can also be placed in a clean metal pan and brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Boiled water should be covered and allowed to cool in the same container. If you have difficulties in bottling and storing water please contact us on 06 374 4080 or 06 376 0110.
  • Please note that this boil water notice is not the fault of the i-SITE or library staff members in Woodville. This situation is frustrating for everybody, and Council is working hard to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Thursday, 15 February 2024. 4.30pm

We are issuing a boil water notice for the Woodville water supply as a possum has been found in the water treatment tank.

Routine sampling is ongoing and no contaminants such as E-coli have been detected in the water network. We are issuing the boil water notice as a precautionary measure until further investigation, flushing and testing is completed.

A letter drop will be conducted tonight and regular updates on this will be provided through the Council information channels.

Until notified, Woodville residents are advised to boil water before using it for:

* drinking (including making of sachet juice/drinks);

* making ice;

* food preparation;

* brushing teeth; and

* preparing infant/toddler formula.

Electric jugs with a cut-off switch can be used as long as they are full – allow the water to come to the boil and wait for it to switch off (do not hold the switch down to increase the boiling time). Water can also be placed in a clean metal pan and brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Boiled water should be covered and allowed to cool in the same container.
