Rates Rebate applications are closing this month

8 June 2026

If you own your home and are on a low-to-middle income, you could be eligible for a rates rebate of up to $805.

A rates rebate is a partial refund on your rates bill, with eligibility based on your household income and the amount of rates you pay.

Applications for the 2025/26 rating year close on 30 June 2026, so now is the time to check whether you're eligible and submit your application.

This year, Central Government increased the income thresholds for the Rates Rebate Scheme, meaning more households may now qualify for a rebate, or be eligible for a larger rebate than in previous years.

For the 2025/26 rating year, the income thresholds to qualify for the maximum rebate are:

  • SuperGold Card holders: $45,000
  • Non-SuperGold Card holders: $32,210

The maximum rebate has increased from $790 to $805.

Application forms are available from Council Service Centres, online through the New Zealand Government website, or by contacting Council on 06 374 4080 or 06 376 0110.

Once your application is received, Council will assess it and notify you of the outcome. If approved, the rebate will be credited directly to your rates account.
