Dog registration for 2026/2027
8 June 2026
Keep an eye on your letterbox for your 2026/2027 reminder notice.
Letters have been sent to all registered dog owners on our database – these should arrive by 10 June at the latest. If your letter does not arrive by 10 June, give us a call or head down to your nearest Council Service Centre and we’ll print a new copy for you.
Registration fees need to be paid by 1 August to avoid late fees.
Let us know if things have changed!
If you’ve changed your address, or where the dog is kept, or you no longer have the dog for any reason, please let us know in writing or by email, using the appropriate form, e.g., a transfer or deceased dog form etc.
All dogs over the age of three months must be registered with their local council - it's compulsory in New Zealand under the Dog Control Act 1996.
Council is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Animal Control. You can get in touch with the Council team by emailing to info@tararuadc.govt.nz or phoning 06 374 4080 or 06 376 0110.
