For safety’s sake keep your trees and shrubs trimmed

With spring upon us residents are being urged to trim overhanging trees and shrubs that encroach onto the footpath as these can cause problems for pedestrians, especially the elderly and those on mobility scooters.

All overgrowth and shrubs should be trimmed back clear of the footpath edge, with a clearance of 2.1 metres of overhanging growth above the footpath for footpath users.

Overhanging trees or shrubs can also cause problems for road users, blocking visibility of vehicles coming out of driveways or preventing a clear view of road signs.

If any vegetation or hedging is starting to overhang or block the pavement, please think of others and trim it back so they can pass safely.

Council is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding overhanging trees and shrubs. Please call our Council team: 06 374 4080 (north) or 06 376 0110 (south), alternatively email info@tararuadc.govt.nz.
