Mayoral Relief Fund for Tararua boosted with 150,000 dollars

Yesterday afternoon the Minister for Emergency Management, Kieran McAnulty announced that $150,000 will be donated to the Mayoral Relief fund in the Tararua District.

The Mayoral Relief Fund has been re-established recently and is open for donations to help support Tararua communities find their feet after the devastation caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.

According to Tararua District Mayor Tracey Collis, ‘We are extremely grateful to the government for donating towards the Mayoral Relief Fund to help flood affected people in our district. To date, we have also received more than $20,000 in donations from members of the public, which is fantastic.’

‘To see our people pull together to help each other out, and be so generous in many ways is truly heartening. This fund will help us to provide support to those who need it most.’

The Mayoral Relief Fund is an easy and effective way for people to donate to one single, centralised fund and know their financial support will be spent on the most urgent needs and directed where it is needed most.

Tararua District Council Mayor Tracey Collis says: ‘At this stage, financial support is one of the best ways you can help. Financial donations are very useful as they help to provide what is really needed to those affected. It will take a lot for affected communities to recover, and every little donation will help.’

Tararua District Council would like to thank all the people, organisations and businesses who have reached out with very generous offers of support.
