Precautionary boil water notices for Eketāhuna and Pongaroa - LIFTED

Published 19 Aug 2022

The precautionary boil water notices for Eketāhuna and Pongaroa water supplies have both been lifted as of 4:30pm today, 19 August 2022.

The Eketāhuna precautionary boil water notice has been in place since 13 July, following turbid water from the Makakahi River source and teething issues with new water treatment plant systems. These have largely been resolved and water disinfection processes (both chlorine and UV) are effective. No E.coli has been detected in the reticulation network during this time.

The Pongaroa precautionary boil water notice has been in place since 11 August, following turbid water from the rural supply network. This has been resolved and water is compliant with the NZ Drinking Water Standards. Again, no E.coli has been detected in the reticulation network during this time.

Thank you to all residents in Pongaroa and Eketāhuna for their cooperation and patience. Council would also like to thank the Taumata Arowai, and Pongaroa Rural Water personnel, for their support and advice during this time.

Especially for Eketāhuna, Council acknowledges the frustration continued disruption to supply may cause to residents and we apologise for this. Our number one priority is protecting your health.

Please help to spread the word to those not connected to the internet. Thank you.
