100 years’ worth of Dannevirke News newspapers have found a new home.

With the Dannevirke News office closing, Council has agreed to store the collection so they can be preserved for the community.
The collection contains 410 bound volumes of newspapers from as early as 1906 and as late as 2011. The collection was moved earlier this week.

The daily newspaper has gone through a few name changes in its history, the Dannevirke Evening News until 1936, then as just the Evening News until 1988.

While physical collection will not be available for public viewing, access to microfilm of Dannevirke newspapers is possible at Dannevirke Library. This includes the Daily Press from 1904-1908, The Bush Advocate Jan to Oct 1901, while the 1888-1912 papers can be found online at:  https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/bush-advocate .

Some volumes of the original papers are also in the Dannevirke library. Our friendly library team would be happy to help you access them.
