Safer speeds around our schools and local roads – We want your feedback!

Published 28 Jul 2023

One of the key actions in the Government’s national road safety plan is to ensure there are safer speed limits around all schools by the end of 2027. Council have developed a proposal to address the required changes for our district, and now we want to hear your thoughts on these proposed changes.

As the local governing body, Tararua District Council assumes the responsibility of overseeing all roads in our district, excluding state highways. Therefore, these proposals don’t include state highway speed changes, these will come at a later date from Waka Kotahi/NZTA.

Your feedback on these changes will be considered by our elected members who will then make a final decision on these changes. Once a decision has been made, our interim plan will be sent to Waka Kotahi - NZ Transport Agency for certification. We plan to have the first phase of these changes in place by June 2024.

Engagement is now open, please check out our website to read the proposal and have your say: Proposed safer speeds around schools and local roads | Tararua District Council (tararuadc.govt.nz)
