National Poetry Day Events

There is a bunch wide range of events available at our libraries during  national poetry week, you can check them out below:

Open Mic Poetry Night

Join us for an evening of poetry on the open microphone on 24 August, 6.30 - 8.00pm

Bring along some poetry to recite, either your own, or your favourite poets, or both. Light refreshments provided.

Cut Up Poetry

Celebrate National Poetry Day at your local community library by creating your own Cut-Out Poems.

When: 26th August 2022, 11 am

Where: All Libraries Tararua Branches

Take words from magazines (provided) and re-hash them to make your own unique poem.

Anyone welcome. Morning Tea will be provided.


Pass It On Poetry

Come along to your local library and have fun creating unique poems in collaboration with others!

When: 25 Augut 2022, 2.30pm

Where: Dannevirke Woodville & Pahiatua Libraries

What is "pass it on poetry"?

It's exactly as it sounds! Write the first line of a poem, then poems will be passed around, with each person adding a new line until your starting poem comes back to you for the final line.

Anyone is welcome. Tararua Libraries will be providing tea/coffee & biscuits.
