15 May 2023

Getting an update on roads, talking about stress, looking after neighbours, river monitoring, cellphone coverage, better forecasting and isolated families have all been discussed at the Tararua District’s Cyclone Recovery bbq lunches recently. Cyclone Gabrielle Recovery Strategic Advisor Sandra James says the Community Conversations have been a way of letting the most impacted residents know the plans for recovery and what’s underway, and hearing what is most concerning.

“Understanding what the priorities are for people helps us plan. Understanding what the priorities are for people helps us plan.  We really appreciated the nearly 80 people in total who came to the meetings in Herbertville, Pongoroa, Te Uri and Ākitio,” she says,” she says. “We left each meeting with a few questions to find the answers to, and we are getting back to the Community Lead for each area as soon as we can.”
